So cute. Was it easy to see them at this place? I haven’t been there but would love to visit it if we could see some otters. I love them.

    • Yes, they’re quite reliable to see pretty close-up in this area. This photo was taken at the south end of Moss Landing Harbor, across the street from the Whole Enchilada at the intersection of Hwy 1 and Moss Landing Rd. There are usually at least a few otters hanging out here. On this visit, there were 3 in the water and two hauled out on the bank.

You can also get good views of many more otters from Moss Landing State Beach, a little north (marked Jetty Rd. on google maps) – the south end of the north harbour has had dozens of otters the two times I’ve been.

For the best view of all, rent a kayak, as you can paddle the north harbor and Elkhorn Slough.

Thanks so much for the info! I’ve copied it for future use when I can get down there for a couple days or more.

    • You’re quite welcome – the greater Monterey area is one of my favorite places anywhere. So much to see!
